Scrappy Pot Holders

Scrappy Potholders

Started some scrappy pot holders today. At our Quilt Guild meeting last night it was decided that we should all make quilted pot holders as gifts for the members of the Red Deer quilt Guild. Our Guild (Heartland Quilters) are hosting them for lunch tis year because we lost the UFO challenge, the first time in many years.... (I think Norma fudged the figures. :)  We had decided early on that we should host them this year regardless as they had been hosting us for a number of years in a row.

I won't be going to that luncheon, as we are preparing to leave for maui on vacation at that time, but I thought I would take a stab at making some pot holders anyway.

What to make, I wondered?  I went on line this morning and found a few websites that had directions for scrappy quilts. I tried to save or download some of them, but something went wrong and I wasn't able to print them either, for some reason. Here are some of the links to some of the sites:

I really liked the one below with a pinwheel in the middle, but had to draw my own diagram and write out the directions on a blank piece of computer paper as it wouldn't print-

Here's a good tutorial on how the make your block into an actual potholder:

I decided though, that I should do something that was unequivocally me. How about making a tessillating butterfly block, I though?  Ok, I went through my fabric to see if I had enough scraps for at least one pair.

I found my set of templates from my Tessillating Butterfly Baby quilt and then started tracing them on the back of various fabric with a narrow tip felt pen.

I made the mistake of labelling them A, B, C, or D on the back of the pieces with a pen, but some of the letters showed through so I had to scrap those pieces and make some new ones. This time I used a pencil to label them.  If those butterfly blocks turn out, I might make a second set for myself and then make different scrappy potholders for my second set of giveaways....
